Meditation in Contemporary Buddhism

Buddhism in the West is often seen as consisting mostly of meditation. The experience is what counts, not doctrine, ritual or culture. This is rather a postmodern and very untraditional way of looking at Buddhism. Up until recent times it was always a minority, even among monks, who meditated. 

Of course there is good reason why meditation is so popular: it\’s a powerful tool for self-transformation.
